Mystery Issue

I have a relatively new computer. My Case came with an AC'97 and an HD AUDIO cable.
Whenever I have headphones plugged into my _regular jack_, not a usb, my PC will briefly freeze up and the sound will switch to my speakers. I currently have the HD AUDIO cable plugged into my PC, as the mobo had the male port labled HD AUDIO.

Does anyone know why this mini freeze up occurs? It literally only occurs when I am using my headphones.

Thats strange...you said briefly...does that mean only for a few seconds then back to normal?
Yeah. It'll literally be for about a split second and then go back to normal.

If I use my mobo jacks it's fine, just tested that. Might just be an issue with the line from my case.

I originally didn't have headphones long enough to reach from my mobo, so it was a bit of an issue. But I went out and bought actual PC headphones since I didn't have a splitter for my ipod headphones to work as a mic. I'm not to worried about it since it'll literally take me 10 seconds to walk to the back of my tower and plug my speakers in if need be.
