often times when i connect to the wireless network the computer will start to lag/skip, like i will be moving the mouse and it will stop moving on the screen everything pauses for like a second and then it keeps moving. also when this has happened while trying to play mp3's the computer will seem to skip for that brief moment when the mouse stops responding. it will do this repeatedly until you disable the connection which is when it stops. it has happened while merely surfing the net, and it has also happenend while doing my liveupdate for nortonav. it is a generic pci card.. it is listed as texas instruements wireless. it is a 54g card, but the router it is picking its signal from is a 11b router. there is a lso a laptop connected to the network and it does not seem to exhibit any of the probmels that this one is going through. any suggestions?

also, when it is in its lil freezing thing(which is a constant about 2sec of respondingcomputer follwed my 1sec of it locked up) it looks like there is none because i clicked a link in th emiddle of one o fthese lagging episodes and it will not connect.... but it wont stop lagging until i right click and hit disable on th econnection.

Have you updated the drivers for your WNIC? Do you have another WNIC you can put into the troubled machine and test? I would try putting another wifi card in....if the problem persists, its not your connection. try that, let us know how it goes!

Are there a lot of interferance points between you and your WAP? If you encrypt the signal, it will be more stable

allright.. i think it boils down to weak signal(and crappy wireless card).. i put this desktop, the router and the the laptop in the same room, transferred files (from the laptop onto th edesktop) with no problems...

then i put the router back in the basement and with the laptop and desktop in the same room tried to tranfer files from the laptop onto the desktop, and the connection was real sluggish finally it stopped and the desktop started locking up again. so i can either buy a new pci card for the desktop(im thinking the netgear super g card since it is based on the atheros chipset which is what is in the laptop and the laptop has no problems in my room.) or i can get a new router or both...

my solution posted in another forum.. but now im having more trouble.. ill start a new post for that.
