My Speakers Don't Work

I recently had to wipe my computer because of a build up of viruses. When I got it all ready I realized that the speakers don't work anymore with my computer. I am no computer whizz, I have nooo idea what to do. The speakers ARE connected to the power socket and they ARE connected to the computer. I followed the troubleshooter and I opened Device Manager to find that my SiS sound driver thingy has a little yellow dot next to it and when I try to update it it just says that it failed. I tried downloading the software so I could manually update it, but it didn't work.

Any suggestions?

right, when I open device manager, it has a (!) next to SiS 7018 Audio Driver, when I click properties it say:-

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

Also the PCI Modem and Video Controller have a (!) next to them but I've not had any problems with them seen as I don't have a clue what they are, hehe

The Audio Codec is fine, but it seems to be the SiS software that is preventing my speakers from working

When your computer boots enter the BIOS and Check for the Onboard Audio is enabled if its disabled enable it then Xp should find your onboard sound.

You might want to see if the mb mfg has a way to get the ini file for the
driver.

1. If this is an on-board integrated sound chip, has it been enabled in your BIOS?
2. Right-click the offending entry and choose Uninstall, then reboot. Updating does not always work. You're forcing it to clear out and THEN get a new, fresh driver. After you've rebooted, and your device has been found, THEN update with your new drivers.
