My old PC's sound stopped working...

My old PC's speakers stopped working, I would turn off and turn back on the PC, with the hope that the sound would work, this has worked in the past sometimes...but not anymore. What can i do to solve this issue?

I got a sound card, probably off of ebay (been a while, forgot where i got it), and my speakers are the Logitech Z-2300. Can someone tell me what i can do to fix the sound so it works?

EDIT: I mean the speakers don't work, just clarifying.

Have you tested the speakers in another computer to see if it is the speakers or the computer itself?
 
Really? Did you do anything to your computer or they just started working? Maybe a wiring issue something is loose or something.

What happens is sometimes the speakers would work when the computer starts up, where that sound is made telling you that the Desktop has popped up. Other times they wouldn't work.
