My first (gaming) build! :D

Alright so im just about to buy the parts for my first rig to build and after my research I've narrowed down all the parts.

I was looking for any advice if anybody had some better reccomendations or notice any incompatabilites with the hardware I selected.

I also am trying to keep it all local, and since I live in winnipeg, it seems memory express would be my best option.

I decided my budget would be about $1500 and I wanted a good system to withstand the test of time, atleast for a good while and keep me playing the latest games for awhile.

So first the motherboard and processor (2 in one deal):

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/BDL_2600K_Z68XUD3

$499.98

Decided on this since it seems like a good deal for the combo and apparently these can OC well and I'm sure thats plenty of speed already.

Then the case:

$99.99

For the case I felt this was pretty unique and yeah.. thats about it. Looks spacious, Im not looking for anything to fancy and it should do the job incase of further expansion and stay within my budget.

The harddrive:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX36849

$169.99

I felt like this was going to make me go over my budget. But for a 3TB 7200RPM Sata III I feel like I can't be going wrong at that price

And the Power Supply:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX29785

$114.99

Good price and I feel like it should give me enough and a bit more, incase of expanding.

The memory:

$63.99

Seems like a good price for the speed and all. I do believe the motherboard would support those... right?

Can't forget the Graphics card:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX37539

$429.99

I was looking at the 7950, looks like a powerful card, and without having to go fullblown with the 7970 price and have to pay 50$ or more extra for a bit more performance.
I was also looking at the Sapphire card which is cheaper ($389.99).... any significant differences that would make me go with the HIS over this?

Soundcard:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX10326

$34.99

I felt I wouldn't need anything to crazy because I wasn't to considered about listening to music and such with my computer. So I went with the most basic simple thing.

Keyboard and mouse (Ones I have now are garbage):

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/BDL_RZ_BF3_SCII

$159.99

Nice mechanical keyboard and mouse. Both branded by two games I love anyways, and for a good bundle price.

Altogether thats $1573.91 and thats without taxes. With taxes thats $1762.78. Clearly thats over my budget, but I guess I'll be willing to cough out more then I expected for an awesome PC. But im still looking for alternatives. I probably would even cut out my keyboard and mouse and buy that later and stick with my old one for now.

Thats about all I have so far and I beleive thats all I need. Now does anyone have any alternatives I should look at... or did I overlook any compatability problems? But do keep in mind I was hoping to stay within memory express.

Thanks for your time :)

very good for first one...

okay it looks pretty good in my opinion
a few things i would change:
take ivybridge, a 3570k is good enough for gaming.
then i would take an SSD, that will boost up your pc speed.
and what i would take too is an dual cooled graphics card... it is much cooler and it would perform a bit better.
I really recommend a cpu cooler! take an CM 212plus or something like that, it will do your pc a favor:)

I might stick with the 2600k just cause now I have my heart set to it XD.

Maybe I should cut down the HDD drive and throw a SSD in?

Not sure what you mean by dual cooled graphics card? Any specific reccomendations?

I will definetely take the CPU cooler into consideration as well.

Do I really need a sound card, or do motherboards audio normally suffice?

Why do you have your heart set on it?

The difference between a 2600k and 2500k is hyperthreading. A 2600k has 4 cores and 8 threads, and a 2500k has 4 cores and 4 threads. Games will not use more threads than cores.

Ok I see, just thought it would be some of the best performance in the price range,

Which processor + motherboard would you reccommend (within memory express)?

I also was going to go with it just cause it came with a motherboard in a bundle to save some money.

@ Maxx ohh ok thanks dude, I think I might go with that video card, good price and looks like good cooling.

That mobo + processor would save me almost $100 so I probably could go with that instead.

the ssd is a good idea and when you need moar space you can add an additional hdd.(it will be fast!:P)

The onboard sound from a mobo is good enough for headphones... but when you have good speakers like KRK RP5 you really need a sound card;)

OK sweet. Any idea on a good HDD + SSDs I should consider, that might still keep my price range lower. Im thinking dropping to a 1TB HDD that might be around $100, and I have no idea on SSDS.

haha you are right... the hdd you found is cheaper and as good as mine:)

the memory will be compatible and fast for sure! my friend has that set and it works great:D

haha Alright so after grabbing the calculator and adding it all up with the new Mobo+processor, SSD and HDD, and throwing in the CPU cooler, (I also took out the keyboard and mouse for now)

$1361.91

after tax: $1527.58

Definetely better, although I guess it still worked out the same if you take into consideration me taking out the keyboard and mouse xD.

Any other advice or tweaking reccomended. PSU? Case? Looks good to me though, Im sure I can cough up an extra 27$ haha.

By the way somebody mentioned to me before that you just use the SSD for booting and you actually put all the programs and etc onto the HDD. I have to keep that in mind when configuring my drives right?

Yeah the psu actually... there is nothing wrong with it but when you want to have 2 GPU's in the future you need a different one;)

Yeah The one who mentioned was right, but when you play very heavy games(i dont know exactly but i thing with rendering and stuff) i would install it on your SSD when there is place left;)

Yeah for now I think thats way out of my budget xD, but I shall take that into consideration.

And oh ok I see. Well thanks for your help dude, I can already see the sucker running now xD. Now I just gotta find the time to buy the parts and put it all together.

Thanks again, I will drop in later when I have it all up together (or incase I need help with that to ;P)

Get the 2500k. It will save you money, and for gaming, it's just as good as the 2600k. There is no need to spend the extra money, and the overclocking is very nice in it.
