Vista is a resource hog...if that system doesn't have much ram then that's one problem,An upgrade/more ram would help.
Also if you have not defragmented your had drive in the year that you have had it then a simple defrag would speed things up.
Download and install this, Then let it defrag.

Also check what's starting up on your computer by typing in Msconfig in run.
Start - run - Msconfig
Disable anything you don't need to start when windows launches such as word, iTunes etc.
And at last...scan for spyware on your system and viruses.
theres loads of freeware software that can find them.
could you post up your system specs and/or the manufacturer and model if you don't know the exact specs. Because you are running vista you may not have enough to run all the bells and whistles it comes with to make it look pretty so you will see a very slow system compared to your XP one

Thanks for replying.
It is made by Compaq and the model # is RK545AA.
Is that what you asked?
aye, and if i am right and this is the correct model (every site seems to think so) then it is obvious why it is laggy as hell
COMPAQ Presario SR2163WM(RK545AA)
Pentium 4 631(3.0GHz)
512MB DDR2
160GB
ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 Integrated
Windows Vista Home Basic
a p4 system with half a gig of RAM is nowhere near good enough for vista to run properly. Whoever the bright spark at compaq who thought "i know, lets put vista on THIS system" needs to be sacked bceause they don't know what they are doing.
You can upgrade your RAM to make it run more smoothly. Your motherboard can take up to 2GB 667 MHz 240 pin DDR2 RAM which you can get very cheap, and that will speed your system right up.

that will fit right in and it is cheap but still good because OCZ are a good brand and will come with lifetime warranty
and for anyone who cares this is the mobo:

$149!!!! That is a messed up price, you can get LGA775 that can take quad extreme, you can get AM3 boards for that price!!
Hello there,
This link will lead you in the right direction:

If the system was suitable for your needs before, then there is no reason to change hardware specs unless something has died. The most logical guess would be some sort of an infection and that link above will lead you through the steps.
Other then that, the system specs aren't the greatest, especially for Vista. So when the times comes that you may have some spare cash, upgrading your ram would be a smart move.
Hope this helps
Bob
Thank you so much for your reply.
I was wondering that I have restored the system, do I still need to run these Malware Removal and Hijack programs?
