Can you at least put the cd in and play it? You have the correct drivers for your drive right? And what program are you trying to use? WMP?

No problem. And yes, WMP is Windows Media Player. When you put the CD, and it comes up with all the songs, is there an option to rip? and then when you do try to rip it fails? Or does it not even have an option? I don't have windows 7 or I would go check.

When i put the CD in and i right click lots of options come up including rip,if i click rip will it automatically start the music and put it on my computer, cheers.

I have not clicked it to rip because i dont know if it turns the music on automatically thats what i asked you, sorry if i'm being a pain in the rear but as i said i know nothing about computers.

I clicked on rip and bingo it rips it and ejects the CD when finished.
Thanks for your help and time.:)
