Motherboard is on, but no display

Hello All,

One day I woke up and turned on the PC, and there was no display. I open the case and tested all the hardware and memories, and it seems fine. The motherboard does turn on, I can see the light on the motherboard, and the little fan on the board is running as well. The CPU fan is on too, everything seems fine, but there were no display. It seems the monitor is not getting any inputs from the computer. I restarted the bios and reset the motherboard, but that didn't help.

One thing I noticed that was different was that when you turn on a computer, you can hear all the mechanic sounds and what not, but this time I cannot hear those sounds. I couldn't hear any magnetic noises from the hard drive either, but when I test those hard drives on another computer, it works fine. It feels like the motherboard is getting the power, but nothing booted. Also, I couldn't eject my CD drive in that state.

Is my motherboard broken? or my CPU? What should I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Are you using the integrated GPU or an add in one? If you have an add in one try using the onbaord one (if your board has one, i'm not sure. if not try another graphics card)

First off, try reseating your memory, video card, and any other pci devices you may have. If that don't work you can try using a different video card and then after that try resetting your cmos.

Hello All,

my motherboard does not have a GPU, or I dont think. If it doesnt have an attached video card, then it doesnt have a GPU right? sorry I'm kind of a newb at computer hardwares.

How do I reset my video card and memory? Just plug them and unplug them? I have tried all that, and tried to change a video card as well, but none of them seem to fix the problem. How do I reset my cmos?

could it be that my CPU died?? Arg, this is so frustrating, because it was working just fine, then all the sudden it wont work anymore. Actually, I forgot to mention something. It was working fine, then one day it wont turn on. Then after a while I tried it again, and then it turns on, but then there is no display.

Thank you guys so much for the help! I really appreciate it! =]

I think the GPU is fine because I just tried it on my other computer, and the graphic card works =/

I cant figure out whats wrong, but this is so frustrating =[ everything appears to be good. The Memory all works fine, the PSU works, the video card works, the CPU cooling fan runs, and the monitor has no problem, the hard drives all work, and the motherboard turns on..... but it just doesn't "boot up" for some reasons.

I think that the problem is not because of the displays mechanics, but that the motherboard simply "turns on" but it doesn't "boot up" and connect.

My other computer has the same problem, but sometimes when I keep pressing the power and trying it, once in a while it will turn on and work fine, but sometimes it just power and no display. But for this computer, no matter how many times I press the power button, it just wont properly turn on. Any ideas??

You have bad hardware somewhere, could be power supply, motherboard, processor (very seldom). Have you tried reseating everything by taking it out and putting it back in? If possible assemble everything outside of the case to make sure its not shorting out the motherboard.

I tried taking everything out and putting back in, but I didnt take the motherboard out. Should I take it out??

how do I assemble the motherboard outside of the case? How would I turn it on and where should I place the motherboard?

Put it on some cardboard. Put your case next to it so that you can still connect your case wires so you can use the power button. Most likely you will have to take the power supply out of the case to connect it.

arghhh no good, the same problem persists. Motherboard is on, but it doesn't feel like it actually "booted", instead its just on and doing nothing. No display, not even displaying error messages, just no connectivity to the monitor at all. All the fans are working, but thats about it. No magnetic sound from the hard drive, cannot eject the DVD drive, but I know the video card is getting the power, because the fan on the video card also started to spin. Any more ideas or suggestions?? Thanks!

If you are saying the hard drive isn't powering up, then disconnect it and see what happens, see if the pc will at least boot up.

you didn't mention your monitor after turning on gets power or not.. I mean you can see the power light on?..And yeah also check the cable connectors, resetting the RAM sticks...try all those
