More connection issues (tried searching, no solution)

Hello all, I have searched this site but have came up with no solution. I have multiple problems with my connections. I am not on a router and am connected to a Sprint DSL modem. I have tried uninstalling everything, disconnecting all wires, resetting TCP/IP settings, installed a SP2 patch for limited connectivity, and nothing has worked. My problems:

1. Limited or no connectivity concerning my LAN connection.

2. Can't access firewall settings in either connection (LAN or ISP). Says "Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings" whenever I click on the settings button on the firewall tab.

3. Can actually connect to the internet, but it only stays connected for at most 5 minutes. Then most times I have to reboot and reset the modem to get it to work again.

4. When I am connected now it messes up my land line and I can't use the phones.

Anyone have any idea what's causing this? Thanks for the help.

Are you using a filter for the dsl line? Make sure that ONLY the phone is plugged into the filter, and the DSL line is not.

call your provider and tell them to get over there with a cherry picker. i have cable and it went out every five mins, some guy said possible UBR issue, i said wtf is a ubr get ur ass up on the truck turns out the line was loose. i had this probelm for a year before i made him go up there.
