ok so.
for my monitor to go into my computer, well my graphics card (nvidia 7900gt) for the screen to work, or appear rather, i need to plug in an adapter.

NOW.

when my monitor is connected to nothing, on the screen it shows a picture of a port floating around, as you should know, meaning nothing is plugged in. when i attach the adapter to the monitor wire, the screen goes black, and the thing goes away. and when i plug it in to the computer, its still black. (computer on obviously)

what do i do? the computer is fully functional but idk why the screen or anything wont show up. anybody help please?

btw. sorry if its in the wrong section.

Most generally, you can't plug a monitor in while its on already, a reboot is required for the post to initiate the monitor. If i'm understanding you wrong, then you have a hardware issue somewhere, but without knowing what adapter you are talking about, not sure what it would be. So help us by telling us what adapter you are talking about.

Its a:
nvidia 7900gt
Check if any pins are bent
Check Bios Setup (usually DEL on system startup) that the addon card is enabled (Oh, actually you may need to reset your Bios manually, please download your computer motherboard manual for directions)
Does it have onboard Video? If so, remove the addon card and plug into the onboard video, then go into Bios Setup

The Monitor can be plugged in or out when the computer is on or off

It doesn't have onboard video, as seen here: http://usa.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=7y6didlJgWtEGy8b
Here is your manual: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/A8N5X/e2138_a8n5x.pdf

Here's what I'm talking about, inside the manual:

So with the manual, where will it get me? i can set everything up?............

i used this SAME computer with the SAME monitor 2 years ago. thats when the power supply broke. i just fixed it 2 weeks ago lol...and it amazingly doesnt work. but yea..how will i set it up, in that manual, what am i specifically looking for

I provided the pic already
Just reset CMOS settings, then return the jumper

By the way, you replaced the Power Supply.
Did it work or not work straight after that?
If "not work" Then I'd say definitely Power Supply issue

!

after i put the power supply in, i had to start it up with a metal pin going on the thingies, then after that i saw some wires were out, like the power button, connecting to the motherboard. but now thats fixed. lol. now. just do confirm. its possible to reset the "cmos" settings without a screen? will it be hard? and what if it doesnt work..

Look if you can turn on the computer with the screwdriver technique, then you should learn how to reset the CMOS manually

Power out, and screen unplugged

!

i did exactly as it said, and reset the "cmos settings" or w.e it was. still got the same problem. the light on the side of my monitor stays green, shuts off, then stays green, shuts off. it stays green forever when its on. when its on the adapter and not computer it blinks green, and same for when its plugged in

I better be clear about this
Is it actually starting up? (ie you can hear this) And the screen is just blank?
If so, then it may just be a faulty screen, do you have another?

The computer itself starts up, and the monitor starts up. im on the monitor right now with my working computer. the other one, when i plug it in nothing happens. when I UNPLUG the adapter, my monitor goes like. "pshhh" (the sound it makes when i plug it into my working computer, when its on) idk if it could be faulty seeing as its fine with my working computer.. anyways im off for the night..i guess ill try to figure it out myself

I see, yes the monitor is ok
Bios is reset
...?..

Try this :)
With computer off (as it must be anyway)
Hold the ON button in again for 30 secs, then let go (obviously power cord out)

Then.. open up the case (probably still open)
Unplug the main 20/24 pin power cable to the motherboard
Do the 30second thingo again
Plug the 20/24pin power (securely) back in
Actually also take out the Ram, and blow out dust, and re-insert them until they click in

At last put the power cord and monitor (only) back in
Turn on

And now? (it should take about 5mins all up)

edit:

Actually remove the Video card as well
And then re-insert it, all the way down

!

i did that, but now i see u said to do the video card too lol. it didnt work. ill do it again tomarrow and remove the video card.....

maybe its the adapter....seeing as the screen goes blank when i put the adapter on the monitor wire as i said. eh w.e too late for this
