Modem Driver Help.

Hello,

I had to format my computer, yesterday, due to a problem I'd been experiencing with it. Initially, my system (HP Pavilion a620n) came with an integrated software disk - where the OS (XP home) shared residence with all other software. Having problems with attempts at a system restoration, I opted for a dedicated OS disk (XP Professional) and used that for formatting & setup. All went well until it came to my modem. No matter what I did, that modem refused to be recognized - and I had to purchase a basic 56k data/fax modem. I had explained my situation to the salesperson, and he informed me that I had 20 days in which to return it, providing I was able to square matters with the other one.

I only know that it is a PCI K56 Flex data/fax modem - with no reference to manufacturer. Any help with this would be most appreciative.

The K56 sounds like a Rockwell Modem. This is manufactured by Conexant. If you go to the modem support site they have a utility that you can download that scans your system to see if you have their modem installed. If you do, they tell you the model. Then you d/l the driver.

In the FAQ they also have a place for identifying your modem by using the FCC code on it. Look on that page as well.

Heres the link to their modem support:

Hope it helps. Again, the FAQ has some good info.

As for the HP modem that is with your system, there are drivers available for d/l at

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&lang=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=424215&os=228

If its a matter of it just not being recognized, I searched the FAQ for your model at HP and there is a specific problem with your model and Windows XP. They offer the fix here:

I would try and get your original system modem going first, try another slot, get your money back on the PCI card. Keep us updated.

Good luck!

Thanks to both of you, I am sitting OK again with my previous modem. I did download drivers, from one of the suggested sites, and reinstalled my modem in a different PCI slot. There is just the one physical modem installed now, but I see that there are two references being made when I go to CONTOL PANEL> PHONE & MODEM> MODEM:

(1) Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem - Com 4
(2) Standard 56000 bps Modem - Com 1

The first poses a problem, within trying to sign on the internet, but the second listed works fine for that purpose. I just wonder if #2 addresses the faxing capabilities of my modem. I guess that I'll soon see :>)

Thanks again. I really do appreciate your help.
