Might need a new sound card, any suggestions?

I have the X-Fi Fatality at the moment. I've had it for about 4 years now... maybe more. I think it might be shot. Does anyone have any suggestions for a new sound card?

Depending on your budget,Look into getting something from the Xonar line.
Very good soundcards....i have the D1.

That's what you have? Is that an upgrade from my current sound card? I have no idea what i'm looking at when i'm looking at sound card specs. So if you could please be of some assistance with this, i'd really appreciate it!

I play video games and listen to music. I don't do any editing or anything crazy like that. And if I do, it's only something small like Audacity. So playback is all I really care about. Music and video games!

Which pci lanes are available to be used for the soundcard? By that I mean which lanes are not blocked by your video card? Also, max budget would be good to know.

The Fatality is sitting in a PCI slot right now. The 570 is only taking up the blue slot on top.

During playback on my phones videos the audio will cut in and out with a very loud static sound.

Are you plugging your phones into the onboard motherboard audio, or the case's front panel audio jacks?

Headphones? Currently I do not use any at all. I might in the future because of where my computer is now located.
