Microsoft Outlook 2007 - recover password

My ISP is Sky.

I have bought a new laptop and I have been trying to set-up the e-mail with Outlook. When setting up it prompts me to put in my e-mail address and e-mail password. Unfortunately for the life of me I can't remember the password. I have tried numerous combinations. The password is not the same as the logon to My Sky.

I have rang the Sky broadband team and had no joy. The guy I spoke to, while as helpful as he could be, didn't have any idea and talked me through account settings and the like in Outlook which I had already tried myself. My previous broadband provider was Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve before I moved to Sky about 2 years ago or so. I think the password may not have changed when I moved to Sky though I'm not sure. I don't know whether ringing Orange would help or not?

The other options I found upon googling involved downloading software to recover the password. I have downloaded a program called mailpv but unfortuantely can't get it to work properly.

Does anyone have any idea how a password can be recovered on Outlook?
..

your password isnt for outlook it is for your email... outlook is just a client that displays your email...it doesnt provide you with it. Im sure you have web based email for that account...log into it.. that is the password you need, if you cant remember it im sure there is a "forgot your password" link somewhere

I have web based e-mail which I can login to ok, but the same password doesn't work in Outlook.

perhaps look in a help section to see if there are instructions on how to setup outlook for their email. if your putting in the right password maybe your username is wrong you might need to put the full [email protected] instead of glens73 or vice versa.

It is possible to set a password for Outlook pst file. There is a small password recovery program below that should help you gain access to your Outlook file.

A simple Google search would have given you the same result

As I mentioned in my original post I have tried that already (mailpv) and I can't get it to work, it produces a .chm file but when I open it in notepad it's all in gobbledy gook.

you need to contact sky with instructions on how to setup outlook for your email. There are certain server names and ports that go along with setting that up that only they would know, or they might not support sending your email to an email client....they should but you never know.

I know how to set my e-mail up and I still have it working correctly on my old laptop with Sky. I just can't remember the password to configure my Sky e-mail on my new laptop. I have a feeling it may be my old password with Orange, who I was with for years, though I am not sure.

Check the sending and receiving port numbers. North Dakota State University use to have an IMAP email server that had certain port numbers for incoming and outgoing mail that you had to be sure that you had right. Nowadays they are running a Microsoft Exchange server which is much better.

The CHM file type is primarily associated with 'HTML Help' by Microsoft Corporation. Used by HTML Help 1.x.

I do not think that we are talking about the same thing.

How can I open this HTML Help file? (I have run mailpv, am I right in assuming that the password is located in this file?)

When I click on it to open there is an error message, which I guess is because .CHM is such an old format. My old laptop which I am trying to recover the Outlook password from has Vista.

Why are you trying to open this file?? The link I provided was for a standalone program which would give you a password for Outlook that would work. Did you read the article at that link??
