Microphone won't record

I've got a headset. When I start sound recorder (soundrec32.exe I think) and start recording, I can hear myself clearly, but the program doesn't record anything.
I've no idea what to do, and can't really give you much info about anything as I don't know what info you need.
I'd really like to getting it working. Anyone who can assist?

Perhaps it's not the microphone, but it is infact Sound Recorder?

Try another microphone input recording application.

Like what? I've got any in Windows?

Edit: Oh yeah, stupid me.. It's not working in msn messenger either.

Ok, click on the speaker icon in the system tray.

Options->Properties

Select recording and then click ok.

Make sure they're all not muted, and that the button underneath 'microphone' is checked as select.
