Microphone not working-help!

I've had my computer for a good few years and the microphone has always worked. We moved the computer it into another room, but plugged in all the cables as they were. I tried using the microphone a few days ago and it didn't pick up any sound. The volume is up, and the cable (pink one from computer to screen) is definitely plugged in. I tried "testing the hardware" in the control panel, sound and audio bit but the test stopped a quarter of the way in and stated that dpvsetup.exe cannot be exerted? (Or something along those lines..)
If you have ever had this problem and/or know how to resolve it, please reply as soon as possible :)

do u have 2 mic ports....cause one of them could be ur default one and the other one wont really respond even though you can hear your voice coming out of the speakers.....
