Microphone is too low for Dragon Speaking

Hi Guys,

We just bought the Dragon voice recognition software for mdh. When we hook up the headset, and do the voice check, a window pops up saying that the microphone volume is too low. I have gone into all the settings and they are all at full blast. The device manager says everything is working correctly. I have downloaded the latest drivers for the sound card.

We have tried using a different headset but the result is the same. The connections are two separate plugs for microphone and headphone. The headset is new and came with the software.

One other note: We bought this software online and discovered when we tried to install it, that it required a retail store to additionally scan the box to activate the software. We sent it back to the seller and he refunded our money.

We bought the software again, same version from a different seller that requires only the Product ID code. I uninstalled the old software before we installed the new software and entered the new product ID code. But now there are two icons on the bottom task bar that is showing to be Common software manager". Could it be that there is a residue from the old software that is competing for control of this version?

And does anybody have a clue why the microphone is not being recognized when everything else works, all the system sounds, the dvd player plays, etc.
Thanks for your help

Device settings?

Hi Okeydokey,

Since I am technically challenged, which devices are you referring to? There are several in the device manager under sound. There is a sound card that has its own icon in the control panel and the way it looks when you double click on it, it shows a man at a desk and two arrows pointing opposite directions to speakers. But we don't have external speakers. When I hook up the microphone, it asks me what I hooked up; line in, microphone, headset. I choose microphone but it doesn't change any settings, doesn't give me any other options, doesn't indicate that the microphone is working. Nothing.

In the regular device manager, it shows that the sound card is working properly. That's all. There is no listing or reference to the microphone, that I can find.

Can you guide me through it? You'll add another star in your crown for helping 80 yr old ladies through sound crises.

THanks

BTW: I saw on a forum that if you have trouble with the headset with Dragon, to buy a headset with a USB connection and that solves all. But why would the manufacturer of Dragon send you a headset that doesn't work with the program?

TO sum up: I went on the manufacturer's internet website and they said in the forum that to add an adapter to the headset or replace it with a USB connection. It was cheaper to buy the adapter and it worked like a charm. So for those of you that are trying to use Dragon Speaking software, the microphone problem is solved by an adapter.
Thanks for everyone's help.
