Microphone Is spazzy

hey
i recently built my computer and there are several problems on it. 1st of all, windows media player and itunes work but very slowly. Right when i start windows media player it takes up to 10 minutes just to load up an empty library. There is no music to load from my computer and even if there was it shouldnt be taking this long. Itunes just takes forever to load up and I usually exit before it finishes loading up. my second, and most serious problem, is that my mic doesnt work, sometimes. When i use programs such as windows voice recorder or goto sound options and unmute pink front in, it works perfectly fine. However, when I goto control panel and hardware sound test in the sounds options, i hear an echo. Its not like a minor echo that is annoying, its like a HUGE amount of echo and u can barely here my voice. and each time it echoes, the sound grows in magnitude and shrinks in quality and conitnues to do so until i unplug the mic. i hear this in hardware sound test and my counterstrike 1.6 mic test. I also hear the continuous amplifcation sometimes when my mic isnt even connected.

Any help would be appreciated sincerely
Other info:

Sound card is integrated into motherboard.
I have updated sound drivers already
Mic works on my laptop 100%

maybe adding a pce soundcard will help?

Thanx

What are your other PC specs and which make and model is your motherboard? Just curious on the PC specs just to be safe; for the make and model, have you googled around and was their any similar problems you can relate to?

Other than that, this "slowness" you describe. Is it specifically just for those two programs? Or are there other programs that react in a similar way too?
