Mic Won't Work

So I have recently built a new computer and everything is fine and dandy except this. On my old computer, there were 4 audio jacks on the back and my mic with a sound and a mic input worked fine in the correct jacks. When i got my new computer, the earphones still gave me sound, but the mic wouldn't record or pickup any sound. I thought it was the headset because it was crap and falling apart. Today I bought a Cyber Acoustics AC-401 headset, and I have the same problem. My speakers and the earphones in the headset both recieve audio from the jacks in the back of the computer, but the mic won't work. I've searched the forums and found nothing that worked. I tried unmuting, boosting, etc.

I am using Vista Home Premium.Any Suggestions would be much appreciated, Thanks.

I don't really know. I havent had to install any drivers. Vista has installed every driver i need so far. When I first booted up, the nVidia drivers installed themselves. Would I need to manually install drivers? My mic doesn't show up in devices.

Vista doesn't even recognize my mic when i plug it in or go to control panel and look for it. Is there no way I could get it to work?

So I took te sound card from my old computer and put it into my new one. It is a Sound Blaster PC 512. Vista automatically installed drivers for me, but didn't get all the way. It installed the drivers, but it could not install the Input drivers(I don't know what those are). I can get audio, but it sounds terrible, even when I tweak it as best I can. Still, I cannot record or have my voice recognized with my mic in applications or games. The only time my mic did anything was when everything i said came right back out my speakers. I tried to install opensource drivers, but they did diddly squat. Thanks for the help.
