Mic Problems on new HP

Got a media center PC on Black Friday. I got it to replace my dying dell and to play games. With a Video card upgrade, it runs games well with one exception. I use ventrillo to talk to my friends online, and noticed I have a strange mic problem. When I transmit, I transmit the sounds of the game I am playing too even with headphones on. I tried two different mics and uninstalling/reinstalling the audio drivers with no avail. My friends complain of a loud feedback, static etc. Note that when I record when there is no background music from a game it works fine. I contacted HP online chat support and they were of no use (suggested I reformat my Hard drive!). Thanks for your help!

if...

ok im guessing you are trying to plug it in at the front of the pc, plug it in at the back and boom problem solved.

I still need help with this problem! I either have to spend hours on the phone with HP or buy a new sound card to see if that fixes the problem. Does anyone know why I having this problem?

No, just click on the little speaker in your tray, to get to the volume properties, then go: options> properties> click recording> ok> then make sure Mono mix isn't selected, make sure it is on microphone, then you'll be good.

The Hp Center is full of idiots... the only thing they know as a problem fixer, is to reformat the harddrive.

I have this same problem using an on board realtek HD soundcard. Please someone solve this problem. Turning sound mixer off does NOT HELP. There has to be some other solution besides that and where you connect it..
