nVIDIA has announced its new nForce Professional MCP (Media and Communications Processor) for motherboards supporting the AMD Opteron platform. nVIDIA says its product will allow for more cost-effective high-performance server and workstation machines with much greater I/O capability.

The new motherboard chips specifically target the entry and medium end server and workstation market allowing up to four AMD Opteron CPUs and four nForce Professional MCPs to be linked together via HyperTransport to provide up to 16 PCI-Express controllers (80 lanes), four 1 Gigbit Ethernet, and 16 SATA-2 ports.

The new nForce Professional MCP comes in two variants: 2200 and 2050. Motherboards would be designed with one 2200 and optionally combined with one or more 2050 MCPs for greater IO capability.

k...tbh that means nothing 2 me, lol.
the main question is can i set up a LAN with this thing: NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter (from Local Area Connection 1)? cos u need a NIC card to set up a LAN and i hav no idea if the thing i hav is a NIC or not

I believe the networking adaptor you are discussing is made for the nvidia nforce mcp motherboard.. Im not sure as this is new to me. I would assume that the card would work normal if you did not have the special card.. But if you DONT have the nvidia motherboard or the nvidia mcp card dont go and buy it, I believe they require each other...
