May have deleted my sound card - help?

I think I may have deleted my sound card when I was deleting programs. I have a Sony Vaio with Windows XP. I get no sounds and when I try to turn up the volume it is can't be adjusted.

How can I fix this?

Youve probably just deleted the drivers. Try a windows update and see if they come up. If not, find out what sound card you have and find the drivers on the internet.

System restore might fix it

It doesn't always though. I had a sound problem where even if I did system restore, it wouldn't work and I ended up reinstalling windows.

It is a sony vaio laptop. It has been great up until this point.

I installed the driver and I am still having the same problem. From control panel when I open up sounds and audio devices it says "no audio device" and I cannot adjust the volume. Also when I try to use the volume on my keyboard I cannot adjust it. This is driving me crazy.

I'm sorry I spoke too soon. I forgot that I needed to enable the device after installing. I just enabled the driver and it is now working.
