Matshita DVD-RAM drive just quit on me (Matshita UJ-841s)

well like it says, tonight i was trying to install Sonic RecordNow and after the install the damn drive quit working, it's recognizing it and saying the drivers are up to date... but still says it's not working properly, i don't know what to do.... it's a toshiba satellite laptop... and when i go to my computer, the drive isn't showing up in there either, it just shows up in the device manager
in the device status part in device manager it says:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.""

Probably the best test to try first is to simply restart the computer. Be sure it's set to boot to a CD(sometimes you have the option of a boot menu...) and try to boot to some disk such as the Windows disk. If that works, you know there's a software problem...

While you boot to the XP disk, go to the Windows Recovery option. Might as well try that as it sometimes can help small problems such as yours.
