make LAN between desktop and laptop

hey all,

so im getting a laptop for christmas and our desktop has a wireless router so i can get internet on my laptop. so i was just wondering what i will need to do so that i can 1.get files from my desktop wirelessly onto my laptop, 2. play my brother on games via LAN and 3. use the printer on my desktop wirelessly.

for the file transfer you can use remote desktop connection (if both computers are xp). you get this by clicking start, all programs, accessories, communication, remote desktop connection

for games you should be able to wirelessly play lan games. if not buy an ethernet cable

and for printing on the desktop computer go to printers and faxes, right click on the printer you want to use and there should be a sharing thing

iv done the wireless network wizard on bohcomps and made it called 'home' but what do i have to do now so i can actually access the files?

this network thing is so complicated i dont know why microsoft didnt make it simpler
