make cd disc bootable? - need data

greetings,

...i was passing through the forum today and figured that i would raise this question that has been on my mind for a while now....i have an operating disc (xp) that for some reason in no being recognized by a computer after a full format and attempted reinstall of same.....with the reading i have done and the attempts i have tried, i have FAILED to "slide-in" a piece of data into teh original program on disc to make it boot-able...let me explain;

1...i take info on cd rom and, after making sure all the hidden files are visible, copy them to a folder onto my desktop.

2...i attempted to make a "boot-able" file and add to that file as in #1.

3...then, i burn contents back to a cd rom but, when i boot into it from a bare-balls formatted computer, it is not recognized.

so, is there anyone that can make that data file for me and send via e-mail?.....please advise and thanks for the effort!
 
ok, let me CLARIFY MY POST.....

......the ONLY issue is with the data on the cd rom and NOT THE COMPUTER....i can take any other o.s. disc and it is both recognized and bootable so, suspected causes and solutions for the computer and not necessary or required....the disc is not bootable from any other computer...enough said...

......so, please contain them....what i need is a file/data that i can place onto the disc to make it bootable.....
 
It's a bit clunky to do, but you could download nlite and make/burn a new CD with the non-working XP CD as the source. Or you could burn Hiren's Boot CD, boot from that and start Setup directly from the non-working CD if you have two CD drives. That's all I know to do.

.....glanced at nlite and saw nothing about it doing what i need it to do and te same with hiren's.....i know somewhere i read about taking a win 98se disc and doing or taking a fle from that and placing it in the "problem file" but, didn't quite understand it....i have nero and definitely couldn't understand the steps to make a bootable cd rom with it....
 
Did you read my post? Take nlite and your XP disc, make a new disk out of it without modding it in nlite, then it gives you the option of making a bootable iso from it or burn it to disc. Either way it will be bootable.
With HBCD, your other option, I said burn it and boot, then insert the defective XP CD in the secondary CD drive, then go to My Computer>youxpcd>Setup.exe and go from there.

then go to My Computer>youxpcd>Setup.exe and go from there.
