MagicJack?

Alright, Around 3 o'clock central (American) On Discovery Channel, I LOVE Discovery Channel, They always have infomercials on the whole hour. But, I heard of the MagicJack before and I was wondering, Is it worth a shot?
For who you don't know what it is, It's a little device that you plug into your USB port and it converts it into a phone line.

Never tried it to be honest. Most the google results seem to be happy customers though.
Personally I only have a cell phone that is minute based since I don't wanna talk to most people and use the cell for emergency etc.

I mostly use skype to speak with my family since its free to other skype users ^-^


One thing I don't like about magicjack is their EULA states this.

"You also understand and agree that use of the magicJack device and Software will include advertisements and that these advertisements are necessary for the magicJack device to work ... Our computers may analyze the phone numbers you call in order to improve the relevance of the ads"

So you pay for it...just in a different way then usual.

Well, for like my grandma, she just retired and doesn't know how to use any of that stuff. She lives 4 hours north of my place and like to keep in touch with the kids. She does have a computer, and she does have DSL. lol she doesn't even go on there. She does work in excel and whatnot.

If worse comes to worse, I can find a good webcam and teach her how to use it so she can see the kids.
 
Well I am just stating some of the hidden features...it might not be as bad as it sounds.

I just tend not to trust anything on a infomercial ^-^
 
i suspect the junk mail controls may have to be enforced. it does work good though. i don't have dsl but comcast cable.

Grandma and grandpa.
gotta love'em. i think the phone support will work fine. if its the initial setup then remote software and realvnc. im using the enterprise edition to support family.

It's long distance, And We don't want her to have to worry about a phone bill every month.

And what do you mean junk mail? You mean this thread or what?
 
I dont think so it just sounds to good to be true which either means they wont be around long or the service is really bad.

I would not do it.

junk mail. i had the impression ya might have to put up with junk mail. (email) what i was thinking of. Not here.

lol Sorry, I thought you meant I was trying to junk up CF. My apologies. :D

Yea, I understand what you mean. Also, I think if your talking on that and surfing, It might clog up your bandwidth possibly.



I think just going threw Skype or such as that threw a webcam. So she can see the kids and would be free. Thanks guys!
 
Ok.......ya got me all excited. i just bought one.
I Love toy's and gadget's.
still a little kid in me too.
 
I have a magic jack. Don't use it much because almost nobody knows the number. We use it to call long distance though.
 
I ordered one myself yesterday. A co-worker was speaking glowingly and if it works out it should save me about $40 a month. We'll see.
