Low fps issue

Hey guys,

I've been having some problems with low fps while playing games recently and I've really tried to figure out what's causing it.

Whats bugging me is that it doesn't matter what graphic settings i set for the game. High or low, I get the same "waves" of drop in fps. I say waves cause it's not constant low fps. It always start out great with high fps and the game runs smooth, then after a short time it dropsdown for quite a while, and then occantionaly it goes up again for a short time before going down. And it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the amount of action happening on the screen at once. I have ran these games on high graphics before with no prob.

I tried messing with the nVidia controllpanel, I've disabled the HIDs in device management(cause someone told me that could help), I ran anti-virus(AVG) but nothing found, I ran CCleaner, I've reinstalled the game, I tried to look at the task manager while running the game to see if it was anything funny taking CPU power, but couldn't find anything(I actually had about 30-40% still free while running the game) and I've tried to free up some disk space, now sitting at about 40% free space. From wild guess I even tried to change web browser from Firefox to Chrome just to see if it did anything :P

I've tried to figure out a pattern for why it happens too, but it just seems random. :/

So if you guys have any clue I'd really appritiate it.

OS: Vista 64bit
CPU: Intel duo 2,4GHz
RAM: 4GB
Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M

Not sure where to put this post so I put it here :P

FPS is always dropping/raising. Mine usually jumps from 40-80FPS playing some of my games so that is not a issue unless your falling under 30 FPS thus lagging or your running vsync and drop under your refresh rate causing screen tears.

I would imagine depending on the games your playing its your graphics card not being able to process all the game is throwing at it.
If you stand still for a while your FPS is high but once you start to load up new areas it drops and lags right?

Well one thing you could try is download your newest drivers for your card then uninstall your current (even if its the same version do it again) then download a tool called DriveSweeper and remove all your graphics drivers via Safe Mode (F8 while PC is booting up)

Then reinstall your drivers. This might help. Simply reinstalling over the older drivers can cause issues with your GPU so its best to do it this way each time.

I strongly advise against driver sweeper... it made me reformat my system because i used it all the time between new versions and nothing worked.

Just use the control panel to uninstall the drivers' control centre and download and install the new ones.

Something else was wrong with your system...drivesweeper only removes graphics drivers/chipsets by default nothing to force a format. The tool has been recommended for YEARS on this forum and the amount of people who had your issue that I know of is 1 counting you.
