Low buzz in speakers

Hi all,

I have two REALLY good speakers that work well with my computer, I also have two other speakers that have to be run through a receiver, but when I plug my computer into it, it has this really low hum/buzz I can hear it no matter how high or low the volume is, but I do not get it with the ones that are at the computer. In case this helps, since the computer is all the way across the room, I have to run it through two cables, plus the one that is plugged into the back of the receiver...

If you have any questions, I will gladly answer.

TIA

Sounds like a short in something. Could you try another computer connected to the receiver or perhaps another cable on the computer in question? Oh, and does the receiver have an optical or digital input? The length may be pushing it, but if you could use some form of digital input, you'd probably eliminate any feedback.

The most important question - what cables are you running to your noisy speakers? Anything unbalanced is susceptible to picking up noise, so if it's running near a mains cable or socket, or any piece of equipment (or even if it's not - cables are a bugger!) they can pick up noise.

You will probably solve it by buying a new, well shielded (so not the cheapest) cable.

Well if it's a ground loop button you should consider going to a local radioshack and picking up a 2 prong to 3 prong power plug adaptor. That will lift the ground on your receiver. You may also need to plug that with the PC on the same power strip (I'm not entirely certain though).
