loud background, no sound

Please help,

When I watch a movie, all background sounds (door opens, birds fly, walking) are really loud, while I barely hear the actual conversations, the actors talking. What could it be? What should I do?

Please post how you have your audio setup...like speakers,how you have it setup,2.1 or 5.1 or whatever and all that.
 
Well I guess it's 2.1 though not sure... It's a laptop with built-in speakers. Sorry totally incompetent in this topic.
 
Ok i dont know if its laptop speakers. When you watch a video on youtube,does it sound normal???Im not the best in the subject of sound ether. Sounds like something to do with dolby pro logic like how the sound goes to the speakers....
 
try using another bit of software, it's probably a decoding problem. Try VLC media player if you're not already, it's a free download and plays everything under the sun!
