ok this may be a dumb question but forgive me im a newb.

so i have a sony vaio desktop computer with windows xp media center edition. my sound set up is a 5.1 speaker system, i dont know alot about the soundcard and all the technical stuff. but heres my question:

i get alot of static when i try to turn the volume up, i have the speakers at half way point, and also the computer volume about 3/4 level, and i am hearing a high level of static, to the point where it is almost overpowering the music or whatever im listening to. so this forces me to leave the volume low, i cant turn it up high or ill hear alot of static. what can i do? does this have to do with my soundcard? plz help its pissing me off

I think it's your speakers. Quick way to check: 1. Turn the volume on your computer down by like half or so... 2. Turn volume up on speakers, if it still does the same thing at the same point, it's your speakers, if not, probably sound card, but could be something else...

Whoa, ok, so Firefox freaked out on me, don't know what exactly happened, but sorry for the double-post... (I'm actually seeing about 12 or so, but by the numbers it looks like 2...)
