Lost 'what you hear'

I had some issues with my sound card, which were resolved today - it was a hardware issue after all. My sound card had died, even though all the signs within the system stated that it was okay. So I tossed the Audigy 2 SZ I had in the PC and replaced it with another card I grabbed from a friend who had a spare SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio lying around. Everything is now fine except for one thing - I seem to have lost my 'what you hear' facility in the sound/recording settings. I use it a lot for picking up sound bites and sound effects to use on my home videos when editing footage and sound together.

I don't know how I lost it, and I've tried all the usual stuff, even looking for alternatives to try and get the facility or something similar back again.

Any ideas on how it disappeared, and what I can do to fix the problem?

The new card probably does not have the same features as your old one. Did you reinstall the drivers and the supplied software that comes with the card you got from your friend?
