Looking into buying a camera

Hey guys, well, I'm getting into photography a little, and have decided to invest in a new camera, I currently am using my mom's old Canon Si S2, and its decent, but I want some opinions on whether I should stick with this camera for learning techniques and stuff, or go ahead and buy a mid range camera. No more than 350.

Ive been looking at the Fuji Film s2800, It looks decent, Specs look pretty good, i guess :P

I like to have more than 15x zoom, I like the large zoom feature.

I love mine, and have no regrets in buying it. You will have to save up to get your self a nice zoom lens. They only cost about $60-100 for a good one on eBay. You can use any Minolta AF lens with it, and there are tons of them on eBay for cheap. If you're set on getting an SLR-Like though I have had great experience with Fujifilm, but even better experience with Panasonic. Look at a Panasonic DMC-FZ35, or something along those line.

The FZ40 is only $300 right now http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC...R694/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1291447045&sr=8-2

Well just for reference you can get a Pentax K10D for $300. I use the K10D and find I'm able to get very satisfactory results from it.
With that being said you should be able to grab deals like that from most manufactures.

I think Canon EOS 5D Mark II is best for any purpose because it delivers the fluid shooting experience and fine photos you expect from a professional model.

If you haven't made a decision yet I would strongly recommend a canon rebel xti with the kit lens (18-55mm). If you look around on ebay you can find them for around $300. Here is a link to one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-EOS-Digit...199652?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item5ade73fba4

I used to have one. It was my first DSLR and I used it for two years. It was a great camera, and still is. The two biggest things I liked about that camera is it will clean the sensor by itself, and the auto-focus is way faster than a point and shoot, almost instant.

DPreview is a great site to learn about cameras:

If you have any questions about photography feel free to ask me. I've been shooting for 7 years now and took a year of photo classes in college.

Ive got a panasonic lumix f515 12mp and its great and clear 8x zoom well worth the money i paid 170 in its time but you can easily pick one up for around 90 that's a bargain.
