True, but CAT6 can do everything CAT5 can do and more.Just a heads up, that is cat6 cable, not cat5 like you originally stated.

I am not sure.I am just useing it to hook up a desk top in another part of the house.We use wireless now but am sick of the slow speed.
You will be fine with Cat5e cable on short residential runs, even for gigabit networking. Either Cat5 or Cat6 should work for you.
What wireless protocol are you running now (a/b/g/n)? It might be less of a hassle just to upgrade your router depending on what you need and what you have now.
