Looking for first Digital Camera <$300

I'm having a hard time choosing a camera. Right now I'm looking at Canon's ELPH series. Which one of the ELPH series would be the best?

I would like a:

-Point and shoot (I'd use manuel sometimes)
-HD video
-Takes great photos (Outdoors & Indoors )

Don't know what else to add. I'm open to all opinions.

I suggest something small and portable. My brother got a bulky camera with a
long zoom lens, and then he wouldn't bother taking it places because it was
too big and heavy.

Another feature to look for is image stabilization. With some cameras, the
slightest hand shift will blur the entire image. A camera with image
stabilization will even allow you to shoot moving pictures, and they will
come out clear every time.

I suggest also something with lithium-ion battery and charger included. So
much easier to charge and go than finding batteries.

I would suggest with companies like canon or nikon. I know that you are on a $300 budget but I recently bought a Canon g10 which has 14.1 megapixels and it is amazing. It takes really nice photos. But as I was saying, you should look at canon or nikon.

Supposedly the difference between 10MP and 14MP is not noticeable. It's like the
difference between 800mhz and 1066mhz ram. The performance peaks at a certain
point.

Weight doesn't matter to me. Most of the Canon ELPH cameras have those features you stated.

PowerShot SD780 IS and PowerShot SX200 IS has the features I want/need but which one is the better

choice?

After reading 34 reviews on both cameras (the SX200 and SD780)

I decided that the SD780 is the better bang for buck. But I wanted to know

has anyone had any experience with the Sony Cybershot W290?

On paper the W290 is the best bang for buck (in the $200-300 range) but is

the performance as great?

I've had the Canon IXUS 100 IS for over a month and it is by far the best camera I've found in the mid range budget cameras. It has fast responsive AF and the new scene auto mode looks like a gimmick but actually it works very well, so novice users can get great results without much difficulty.

Hd (720p) movie mode is a nice addition as is the HDMI interface which allows me to connect the camera to my full HD TV set. The menu system is fast and easy to navigate. The camera has also nice features like a simple complete silent mode, a simple one button full brightness lcd mode etc. The Digic IV enables a lot of high tech which actualy helps getting better pictures.

While it is a bit above your price range it is well worth forking out the extra. It retails for $450, however I got a decent deal from Ezy Electronics for $374

I saw the Canon IXUS 100 IS (I think) at walmart today for $229. After

reading more review on various cameras of different price ranges I decided I

will most likely get the Panasonic DMC - ZS3 (Unless someone changes my

mind  ).
