I have a creative aspire 6.1 6700 speaker setup.
recently the volume control/power switch has been playing up and it makes the volume fluctuate (inconsistently) when i adjust the control. gently applying force would sort it out but its getting worse and i'm looking get a replacement potentiometer and soldering it into place myself.
i've looked around and i couldn't find much on the part i'm looking for.
if anyone else could shed some light on the part i need or where i can get one i would be most pleased.
also, if thats not possible if anyone knows where i can purchase a complete control unit that would also be very helpful.

thanks in advance

it's most likley dirty. Go to an electroics store and get some spray silicone. Looks like a can of compressed air. Open the case to expose the potentiometer and hose it down.

yeah, i was looking for my contact cleaner earlier but i couldn't find it. i wouldn't say it was dirty though cos their isn't that crackle noise thats normally associated with a dirty control, but i wont rule it out though

interesting. I remember in my old car that had the volume control knob like that, when it would first start to get dirty it would do crazy stuff like that. No crackling, but the volume would jump crazily with each "notch".

You're probably going to have a hard time finding one, as you need to match both resistence and form factor. I have been able to find crazy stuff like that by just playing on google for a few hours.

Of course this is no fix but have you considered just turning the volume high with the knob and then adjusting your volume through windows? with my Logitech Z-5500's I never adjust the volume with the control pod. I use the volume on my keyboard. It seem easier as it is closer.

i#ve tried using the different levels and putting on it highest setting works best.... i've never actually used the controls on my keyboard lol

I've got more ways to adjust the volume then I can shake a stick at.. LOL. Two remote controls, A large knob on the control pod and the volume on my keyboard as well as through windows with the mouse of course. I have also got this thing http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/pcdvd/index2.php but don't use it anymore.. That makes it 3 remotes... Crazy.

Possibly :).

Yea I bought 2 of those. One for my PC and One for the wifes although she don't give a damn LOL. They where $12. a piece for me. I don't however use mine anymore but possibly again on another computer in the future who knows. It worked well for Winamp and Media player 9 (not tried with 10). Oh yes and Power DVD as well.

Was wondering with your setup. Is that cord your volume attached to come off the sub? could you possibly get a replacement from Creative for a few $$?

yeah i was considering the cord but thats fine.... i was trying to see if it was possible to buy a new control unit from creative but i couldn't find anything short of writing a long winded email to creative and seeing if they could supply the part.

i know for sure that its the potentiometer cos i've had the unit open and and when the sound goes funny i applied pressure to the potentiometer's shaft and the volume was fine again.

just an update - I decided to order that remote control unit that Blue recommended... only $5 from ebay, i'm paying more for P&P lol.
i liked the idea of being able to control my system from the other side of the room cos i'm always listening to music.
the only reason i went for that was because i couldn't find anything similar anywhere else
