Logitech Z-5500

I am going to buy the Logitech Z-5500 speakers for my pc and Xbox, as well as movies.

But my question is, what cables do I need to hook it up to my Xbox? Do I need a reciever?

What do you mean my hi def? Those speakers are excellent quality and are thx certified. Which is good. That is the only thing there that is going to get you true 5.1 on your xbox.

Oh ok. But how do they compare to $1000 surround sound systems, because $270 seems fairly cheap for a THX surround system.

And there is a thing called Xbox Advanced AV pack. Would that be better than the logitech console adapter?

they are actually $400 retail and the Z5500s I have kick a**! You wont regret getting them. Since shipping will be quite high on them, I recommend you buy them from Zipzoomfly.com they offer free shipping and when I bought these speakers i got em for $230 and free shipping.

you guys know nothing about sound. but anyways to get a TRUE 5.1 sound signal to your z5500 there is a fiber optic output that would come out of the back of the HD cables (you would get that with the premium package) there would be 5 cables on it. a red blue green and another red and white. but on the base of the cable where it connects to the xbox there is a little port that looks almost like a phone line. that is your fiber optic output. on the back of the z5500 controller there is another port that looks identical to the one on the back of the xbox, now all you need is to get a fiber optic cable and connect them. here is a link to the cable.
normal fiber optic

much better fiber optic

fiber optic sends a true digital signal. its a light signal that send binary code. pretty cool technology. with either cable you go with make sure you DO NOT bend it because the cable is made of really really fine lines of glass so if you bend it to much it will break and will no longer be able to transmit a signal.

but for you that said you have never heard of a 1000 dollars sound system, that would be considered a REALLY cheap sound system. B&W makes a pair of speakers that NASA helped engineer and guess how much they are for each speaker.....12,000 dollars for a speaker. i heard them before at a really high end stereo shop they are AMAZING. the tweeter (what gives you the higher frequency sound) is actually made out of a diamond to make sure there is no distortion at high volumes. but overall the speakers are WAY overpriced.

Don't say we know nothing about sound. For the price differance between the two you are not going to notice that much of a differance that it is worth the price. Those thx certified cables are just a gimic and are mostly a marketing label for higher profit. If you do want to get that it will be fine. But like I said you will be happy with the 5.1 game console adapter.

it will not be in 5.1 with just that adapter. that red and white cable only carry a stereo signal. yes your logitech z5500 has a decoder in it to simulate 5.1 sound out of a stereo signal but it still wont be nearly as nice as a true 5.1 set up. and fiber optic is a gimic..are you kidding me? is that why we send fiber optic cable accross the ocean to carry or digital information between companys. is that why 80% of the telephone lines out there use fiber optic cable? i fiber optic cable can carry so much more data than a regular RCA cable.
heres another forum that explains the difference between analog RCAs and a Fiber Optic cable - link

now lets compare a 3000 dollar sound system to the logitech z5500. no dont get me wrong the logitech is a sweet bang for its buck, i personally have it. but when it comes down to actually recreating the sound from the studio to your house it doesnt even come close. really the logitech is just a lot of bass and alot of high frequency, and some mid range. your midrange is where all your voices come from. its just like that peice of shit BOSE system. all BOSE systems are peices of shit. they use a paper speakers and they just plan suck. if you get a chance sometime go and listen to a B&W entry level bookshelf speaker vs. a bose cube. you would be absoulutly amazed!
you guys should check out a forum called AVSforum.com its a home audio and home video forum. its pretty cool shit. those cables i sent you in the above link those are CHEAP cables. they make speaker wire out there thats 250 dollars a foot...yeah A FOOT. but do some research about cabling it makes a huge difference. using a real cheap connection on your logitech system would kind of be like putting shitty ass tires on a corvette. you just are going to get any traction and enjoy the full benifit of your corvette.
