Local Network Problems

Me and my brother have set up a local network (wireless) between our two computers (my pc and his laptop) mainly for gaming. But sometimes when i click on workgroup computers and click on his laptop i get an error that says 'The Network Path Was Not Found'. At the same time it doesnt let me connect to him, it wont let him connect to me. I just wondered if there was any way of stopping this from happening. Thanx

EDIT: Both comps have windows xp

both computer's have to be on the same group: WORKGROUP or whatever you named it.

you also need to enable file and printer sharing.

They are both in the same workgroup, and i have file and printer sharing enabled. If you read carefully you would see that i can only not access it SOMETIMES, if i couldn't access it all the time then you would probrably be right. The thing that annoyes me is that it has no pattern to me not being able to connect, it just does it when it feels like it!

well it works when there 1 meter apart or if i'm upstairs and he's downstairs. Then sometimes when there 1 meter apart it wont work sometimes, thanks but there not out of range.

did you check the meter? if they're not close enough you'll not get something like 54mbps but lower.

yes, even if there like 1 foot away from the router and the signal is on excellent it sometimes doesnt work.

Yes the signal strength is 99% of the time steady and is has WPA-TSIK protection.

EDIT:The network han't gone off yet today so thats a good sign, although if it goes again i will post back. Thanx for your replies.

Every wireless network I have seen does this exact same thing on occasion. I have been trying to fix ours for the last 3 years without success.

haha yep

IDK if this has already been tried, but here are some tips

Update the router's firmware
Update drivers for the wireless adapters
Reset the router
Change the router's broadcast channel
Check for interfering items (microwaves, wireless phones)

okay cheers m8 ill do that now.

EDIT:I already have all the firmware updates!

Done, completed, comprende!
I found the problem and fixed it. The router was displaying the wrong ip addresses for each computer once the main pc that is connected to the router was turned on. (don't ask why!) So i just changed all the ip addresses to what the router was displaying and it worked, to my amazement it actually worked! Thanx for all your imput but in the end i managed to figure it out anyway.

Well good. I think my network has that problem too, I often get IP Conflict messages. But I'm too lazy to fix it. :D

Glad you fixed your problem.
