I got a new laptop(finaly) and i am having wifi troubles with ubuntu. I got ndiswrapper and got that all isntalled. I stick the drivers on my desktop and type into the terminal:
CD /home/motoxrdude/desktop (enter)
Sudo nidiswrapper -i WUSB54Gv2.ing (enter)

*Then it says that the drivers are already installed....*
Sudo modprobe ndiswrapper (enter)
*Fatal:Error (long directory) access denied*

I know my wireless device(WUSB54Gv2) is supported because my friend is using it with ubuntu.

I have tried this with multipul installs and live CDs and still no luck. If you can help me that would be great. THanks

EDIT: I have root privalages

Hehe...exact same errors I got. Linksys adapter, ndiswrapper, and ubuntu. Among other linux distribs. Linux is a bitch to get wireless adapters on, I learned that after about 30 hours spent on weekends trying to fix it. If your friend has it working why not ask him?

You might consider an ethernet adapter, so it would be sort of like a wireless wired network. Just an idea.

I did ask him but he told me to do edzactly as i did. I got it to somewhat work, but still no wifi internet. KWifi recognized it as being there and i could see all the available WIFI connections, but i couldnt select one.
