im interested in getting a linksys router and pci adapter but wanted to know if anyone knew where i can buy a package set with both the router and corresponding adapter. im trying to get an adapter for my desktop computer so would pci adapter be the smarter choice?

whats the difference between getting a pci and a usb adapter. i was thinking a usb would be better since i would be able to alternate from a desktop to a laptop if necessary. does usb just have a less receiving strength or something?

if you are in england pc world have a good special offer on a linksy router and adapter for less than £40

I don't know of any good deals right off, sorry.

As for the difference between USB and PCI, there is no real difference besides the interface. They both will work the same. However, PCI usally gives less problems(USB can be dodgy...) and PCI also has an external antenna, which is easier to upgrade, should you decide to. But I have seen some very powerful USB addaptors.

Hey,

I believe from my expiriences with Netgear, ASUS and Linksys PCI Adapters and USB Adapters feel that the USB is putting out a higher signal then that off the PCI, but you must keep in mind that it is not only the adapter that counts. It also depends on the type of wireless router/modem you have as these two deveices signals meet somewhere in between.

I have just recently played with a linksys USB Adapter that has the capabilities of using it without the laptop, scanning for access points and so forth. Dont remeber which model it was. I was pretty Impressed.

As for packages i really dont know as on i live in australia and idk where you live. You should jsut google for Computers shops close to your area, and look around for the packages.

i live in the US and i was just trying to see if i can find a package deal somewhere, hoping a 60 router and a 60 adapter wasnt the only price i can find.

i had always thought the usb adapter wasnt as strong or had something that made if different bc otherwise wouldnt everyone just buy a usb adapter instead of a pci or a card, since you can use the usb ith either (at the same price).

ive heard alot of good reviews about the linksys thats why i wanted to get the router/adapter. would you recommend i get a pci or usb adapter for my desktop..

Hey,

It realy depends, see with the USB Adapter as i said before i believe depending on the types you get it will range further then the standard PCI Adapter, but if you need this to range far distances you can always upgrade the PCI antena where you cannot with the USB but you also can upgrade the router's antena. My self i have a PCI and really alot of the people who go USB are 2 types of people 1. dont have enough PCI slots to take the PCI adapter and 2. who dont want the hassels of themselves or another person installing the PCI Card.

Also i agree Linksys is a very good brand when it comes to Routers, not only with range but also with Wireless Security. And $60 for the router thats BS over here we pay $230 for those. Well you get that.

I would say if you dont mind installing the PCI go this, but if you want a quick and easy, no hassle installation go the USB.

Hope this helped

Thanks,

Josho
