Linksys router good or bad

I want to know if Linksys is a reliable brand to use. The reason I ask this is because I just bought a brand new Linksys Wireless G w/speedbooster WRT54GS and I am having trouble staying connected on both computers. Before I bought this one, we were using a Linksys Wireless B router and had the same trouble. There is a recent post on here about the problem.

Is Linksys a good brand? If I were to buy a different brand, what would you suggest?

I have no troubles with them personally. If you replaced the router and you are having the same problems it strikes me that the problem is elsewhere.

I always use linksys. But I don't use wireless. I wouldn't know if LinkSys is good for wireless. But as a brand I've never had any trouble. Come to think of it Winona State University uses linksys for their wireless. Being a college that gives a laptop to every student, it has to be reliable.

Sirkenin, I thought the problem was elsewhere to. But I had my ISP setup a monitor for the cable modem to see if it was losing signal. They said it never did . The monitor lasted for four hours.

Well then, my friend, you better start sniffing out where the problem lies, because the chance that it's your actual WAP is not very good.

What version is the wrt54gs? I have the same one with no problem. Make sure to update to the latest firmware also.

Other than that, it might be your computer's themselves. Such as the programs it is running in the background, or your firewall, etc. Since you just got the wrt54gs. Try updating it, then if it still doesn't work, you can return it back and try to solve the problem first with your other B router. Possibilities now is your computer themselves or their is some kind of signal or something within the router and your computer that is interfering with the wifi signal broadcasted form the router to your pc.

It is the version 6 model and I already updated the firmware so it is not that. I would like to keep this one since the computers are setup to share files.

Well, then check up on you're computers. You've now narrowed it down to it NOT being the router. Since you said they are sharing, I assume you got them setup and everything where networking eachother is working. Just check on your PC and see what programs may or may not be running in the background. Check if there are anything (like other wireless products) that can interfere with the signal. Check your cables; make sure they aren't lose, old, plastic is cut, etc..

My Windows Sp2 firewall blocked internet access when my computer was wired to the router.. As soon as I turned it off and restarted I could get access to the internet.

One thing I did notice is that when I use Ares, that is when it stops working. But could a program on my computer cause it to quit working on the other computer too? He does not have Ares on his computer.
