hi and thanks in advance
ive set up a netgear router to work with a laptop for my daughter
{working fine}
now heres my problem i set it up on my laptop which is also wifi capable
is it possible to use this laptop as wireless and not wired to my router
and if so how do i do it ?
ive been messing around for ages and still no wiser!

thats wierd b/c usually the internal wireless card in the laptop should pick up the signal and automatically connect you.
have you looked in "Network Connections" in the control panel?? maby you have wireless diable somehow. Also i the corner of the screen next to the Time, do you see a little icon that looks like a computer with like little signal waves coming off of it or different size bars??
if you do see it double click it and a window will pop up. then click View Wireless Connections it will search for you router and just double click it when you see it. it will either say defualt, linksy's, or w/e name you gave your router.

i have checked for my connections and it says no wireless connections available
how can the wifi card be disabled/enabled
thanks for the reply

in can be enable by going into control panel and going to network connetions. then you should see something that says wireless network connections if its disabled there should be a red X in the icon,if its there, double click it and click enable in the window that pops up

ive done that and your right theyre is an x in the connection symbol
but it must be enabled as theyre is only a disable option open to me
it wont repair as i cant get a connection
it just says not connected/firewalled
thanks for your time again

make sure that your laptop and router have the same type of wifi. i.e. 802.11g in your laptop and 802.11g router.

if your laptop has integrated wireless, there should be a button somewhere on the front of it to enable/disable it.

what kind of router is it?

our DSL modem/router had to have the wireless poriton activated within the router to use it, but worked out of the box with the dsl

thanks everyone for your help
problem solved i used system restore
as a last resort just to try in case me or kids messed anything up
anyway its picked up my wireless network straight away
thanks again for all the help
