Laptop vs Camera

Greetings people of the forum, I come in peace.

I wanted to see what you guys think I should purchase next.

Option A:
This Netbook. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...-details.asp?EdpNo=4832820&csid=ITD&body=MAIN

It matches all of my needs (web/documents) for school. I think it's a a great netbook for the price. BUT do you guys think that if I purchase 1Gb of RAM for it, that I could run Windows 7?
And, any other suggestions on a laptop? Keep the price around $350USD please ;) I just need it for web and documents; that's basically all.

Option B:
I've been wanting a camera for years and I just want a good DSLR.
I was thinking, either a D60 or a D40. Something LIKE this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-D40-6-1-M...UCI%2BUA%2BP%2BFICS%2BUFI%2BIIUM&otn=10&ps=63

And preferably no higher than $400USD. I would like one with lens as well.. Any suggestions on a camera, please link me :)

Option C: (totally uncomputerforum related, sorry..)

Or a guitar, something like a Yamaha, Tukamine, Ibenez etc... Acoustic-Electric, or just Acoustic. I'm going to guitar center soon to try out a few. Price around $100-350.

Suggestions are helpful! :)

Thanks peeps.

Edit: Ah crap. I forgot to put the poll up :(

i would stay away from a 10" netbook. The keyboards are just to small to be typing with...unless you dont have a problem with it. I had a 8.9" acer netbook that I sold because the keyboard was just too small. I did some research to find that the 10" acer netbooks have the same size keyboard as the 8.9" ones. So Ive been looking for the 11.6" ones because they have a full size keyboard and are still pretty small.

get an hp mini, they are better than acer and the 10" has like an 85% size keyboard. so its almost normal

if you want

If you want my opinion...

If you havent played a guiter before I'd recommend a classical acoustic guitar. They are a lot easier on the fingers when learning, and usually a lot cheaper.

And WHY guitar center??? They are terrible (imo), try some pawn shops first. You wouldnt believe what some people sell to those places, its where I got my guitar. And pawn shops will work with you on price more that guitar center will.

For instance I got my last guitar, an acoustic nylon classical, for $45 at the local pawn. They brought it down from $55. It may not sound like much, but for a college attendee its a fortune.

You could also try the pawn shops for that camera. Why not save a couple dollars?

Yeah. I know they're small. I can still type on them. And, it's an ASUS, so it's more reliable :)

Yeah I was looking in to an HP Mini.. I think the specs were a little low, but I check again... And I was going to an ASUS, not Acer :)

Guitar! Are you going to start playing? Or do you already play?

Second choice, I would buy a camera. You can get a used or refurbished Pentax K100D Super body for around $300, and a new 18-55mm lens for around $60, look in Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...256599491&sr=8-2&seller=&colid=&condition=new

Or if you want Nikon http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...ie=UTF8&qid=1256599549&sr=1-10&condition=used

I do play guitar. My old one is really crappy and cheap. The frets aren't aligned either, so my B string is too sharp when playing a fret. :(
And I've been meaning to get one :)

Hmm. Wow that's a good deal for a lens.. I was sorta leaning more towards Nikon, cause I'm a little more used to them.. And most of my friends have them, so might be doing some lens changing.

I would prefer getting one with the lens, cause it's all I need right now ;)

No I'm not beginning. I already have four guitars. Two electric, two acoustics, (Epiphone SG, ESP LTD Baritone <--electric.... Acoustic: Johnson and Jasmine.) I want a new acoustic cause the frets are warn down and the other one, the frets aren't aligned.. and it's cheap)

I might try a pawn shop, I duno. The only reason why I wouldn't go to a pawn shop to get a camera, would be because I wouldn't know if they were taken care of, or if it's going to break on me.. :\

[strike]Well, what kind of guitar do you want? Strat like? Or another Humbucker style guitar? Semi-hollow maybe?[/strike]

*EDIT: I actually read your post now lol. Well acoustics can be expensive too. Anywho, I can't really suggest any acoustics, have you thought of a semi-hollow electric? Something like this maybe: http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-50206111187217_2075_7545040

I have, but I'd rather get an Acoustic. I like the sound they produce :) I'm not exactly a big electric guitar player. I was going to go see what I like, not just aim for a specific brand.. Cause it's my guitar, who cares if it's a crap brand besides me? :D

Oooh that's a tough call... I have both a 10" netbook and a Nikon D40... I guess it really depends on what you want to do.

The netbook is a wonderful toy. I carry it around everywhere. They can be a little limited due to the processing power... Consider it more of a large PDA or something. As for the comment on typing, a 10" really isn't that bad. I have about as hard of a time typing on the netbook as I do my other 14.1 laptop. Some keys are tiny on the netbook, but the majority of them are nearly normal size. At least this is the case on my Acer.

As for the cameras, the Nikon D40 is a wonderful starter SLR camera. I've had mine for about two years now and I love it. The pictures it can make are quite good and replacement lenses aren't that expensive. Battery life is amazing too.

I suppose personally, I use the Netbook the most, but if I had to pick between the two, I'd probably take the Nikon.

Well I think you already know what my first choice would be, if you don't it's the netbook. If you don't need it for anything special tho then don't wast your money.

It sounds like you all set on guitars or are you just wanting a good acoustic. I have a fender sonoran electric acoustic, and absolutely love it. I wouldn't take anything for it, it so smooth and the sound is outstanding. Here is a link to it http://www.2ndstringguitars.com/Product_A6.html I got mine from the local music shop for $350+ $80 for a hard shell case. I will never own another guitar as long as I live.

I don't know much about cameras but I did have a Nikon D40 until it craped out on me a month ago. I had that camera for like 2 years, my dad had bought it when it first came out back in 06 then when he got a new one he gave it to me. It was an awesome camera and took amazing pictures. Now I use a crappy point and shoot I picked up for $60 at walmart lol.

I guess it is just really up to you which one do you need more, better yet which one do you want more. If you play the guitar a lot then defiantly get a good one. If you wanna get into some casual photography then get you a camera. If you need a netbook for school or would just like to have one to take with you out to places then go for that. We can't really decide for you see our decision are only based on what we would get.

Good Luck you got a tough decision on your hands.

Hmmm. Thanks for the input. So it really isn't that hard to type on a netbook?
Your Acer, would you recommend it or do you think that I should stick with the ASUS if I'm going to pick a netbook?
I do need a netbook, it will help a bit with school and what not.. But I can LIVE without a camera or a guitar... Although it would be nice, cause I don't have a camera :P

Good Luck you got a tough decision on your hands.

Save money :confused: Who does that??? lol
I thought you were going to tell me to screw all of these options and get a joystick :P

And it's such a tough decision I wanted you guys to make it for me :D

I might go with the netbook, can you recommend any?

I might run into more money, and get a guitar. The guitar would be the cheapest item on the list, I think...
So you really like the Sonoran? I've never heard of them..

Well, that sucks man

lol It does...

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it :D

Nah I don't play that much maybe 10mins a day, heck I don't even think I know a whole song.

I have used a couple different netbooks(Acer, Asus, Dell) the only one that had a small keyboard was the Acer but I didn't have any problem typing. There is some keys in different places other then that it isn't a big deal.

lol Yes you do need to get a joy stick so you don't do another nosedive on a landing. Get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826102203 then we can do some real flying.

For anybody who hasn't saw it that is Aviation_Man flying the plane:D

If a netbook is going to help you out with school then it is probably more important then a guitar or Camera. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220584 that is the netbook my Mom has and I love it. It is easy to type on and is pretty quick on things like Microsoft word,Excel, etc. It has good battery life to like about 3-4hours of constant use.

Do I really like the Sonoran yes I love it. I tried 9 different acoustic/acoustic electric guitars out. The Sonoran is the one that stood out the most and had the brightest most perfect sound I have ever heard from a acoustic guitar. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/acoustic_guitars/fender/sonoran_sce/index.html there is a couple reviews on it there. My brothers friend who has been playing for 15 years now, played my Sonoran and went out a bought his self one the month after.

Awesome... I will check out a Sonoran :P

Hey does your mom have Win7 on it? And it's pretty fast? I don't want to get it and it lag like heck :P

You do that:)

No my Mom has XP and Linux 9.04 netbook edition(it is super quick)

With another 1gb of RAM I don't really see any reason why windows 7 would have a problem running on it.
