laptop screen brightness

I have a HP Pavilion zv6000 notebook. Whenever it is unplugged, the screen gets much darker than it is when it is plugged in. It gets too dark. I think once I changed the settings to make it darker when I didnt want it as bright.

Anyways, does anyone know where I can go to change it? When it is plugged in, its fine, but when I unplug it, its really dark. I am new to laptops so I am still learning all this stuff. I am using Windows XP if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Also, I did search around myself trying to find it. I didn't find anything under display, except an advanced option for the monitor. Under that, there still isn't really anything that I can change. There is one option where I can adjust brightness, gamma, stuff like that..but I don't think thats what I adjusted. Those are all set on defaults.

i dont know about dell.. but i have toshiba with a "power saver" program allowing me to adjust battery life by brightness, cpu usage, memory.. etc.. see if you can find anything similar.. most likely in something like control panel "power options"

I have an I9300 dell. I adjust brightness by hitting FN+up or down arrow. try that.

it automatically does that. you should see a blue function key and then some arrows that point up and down that is used to adjust your brightness.

yup, its function key and something else typically. look around on your keyboard for icons that might look like a sun or something like that, and the icon will usually be the same color as the lettering on the Function (FN) key.

yea thats right use the Fn key to activated the additional function Keys, u may notice some keys with 3 symbols on them. Or read ur manual to get the info abt LCD brigthness adjustment.
