Laptop has gone really slow, how can I speed it up please?

Hi everyone :)

My brother has this laptop,

Acer Aspire 5552G, its almost 2 years old now but it has become very slow recently, he used to play games on it with good graphics and no lag, yet now it seems to struggle with the same games it used to play smoothly.

I have deleted lots of files and un-installed a lot of his old programmes that are not in use anymore, and also I have used Ccleaner, cleared all of his history on the internet (internet became very slow) and used disk defrag which took a very long time,

and the laptop seems to be quite a bit quicker now, is there any other ways to improve the speed of his laptop please? is there anything else I can do to speed it up for him, as he is only 12 and currently always on my computer and it would be great to get his laptop quicker,

Have you scanned for malware using malwarebytes? How much system ram does it have and what operating system is on it?
 
It would help to post the malwarebytes log and also a hijackthis log so we can see whats going on.

It's not always a guarantee that when you re-install Windows, it will speed it up. Maybe there's faulty hardware at play, or the hardware is fallen behind and can't keep up with today's software/games with all there updates and patches. I'm not saying re-installing Windows is a bad idea, because most of the time, it works. I was just pointing out that re-installing isn't always the solution.

OP. The laptop is only two years old, with decent specs. With those specs, you should be able to run most game at low setting with decent FPS, medium (playable? depends on your taste of lag) at low FPS.

Just try every option available, if all else fails, re-install Windows.

I ran Malwarebytes for about an hour but I had to turn the laptop off as I had to sleep, I will run it again and upload the log as soon as I can :)

I might try re installing Windows, but my brother has a lot of holiday photos on there, could I store them somewhere? also the laptop is a pretty good laptop from memory and its quite new, so I'm shocked how slow it has become, I think it's about 20 months old now,
