Laptop distorsion and crackerling

Hi, I have been useing my internal sound card on my laptop recently and i seem to get loads of distorsion and crackerling, as if it keep jamming for a few miliseconds. It happenes on every sound programs and on the internet loaded video and music programs, i.e quicktime. I have tryed updateing the drivers and to no avail, ideas??

like when you start-up, does the Windows start-up sound crackle and stuff also? i had the same problem, the issue was bad RAM..
 
just 1 memory module could be shot, if you know how 2 take you RAM out, turn your laptop off, and take out a memory module, then start it up and see if it still does the sound, if soo, switch the modules..

if it doesnt do the sound with 1 memory in and 1 out, the 1 thats out is shot..
 
Right, iv tryed taking out each ram chip in turn and it hasnt solved the problem, although its worse on one of them. Does this mean both the chips are fault or is smething else wrong?? Thanks so far Rich
