Lapped my 955BE today

So I've decided lap my CPU and perhaps the H60 as well.

I sourced the sandpaper from a different place this time, I was still unable to find anything higher than 1000 grit. So I have settled with the following:

150-320-400-1000 grit, lowest to highest. As I said I'm about to start, so pictures and results will follow. For now I will leave you with my un-lapped idle and load temps.

For reference, the ambient temp is 16c in my room (winter here, duh)

This is overclocked at 4GHz (200x20) with NB at 2.8GHz/1.275v and HT at 2.4Ghz/stock volts.

And here we begin. You can see the marks on the H60, it's not TIM as I've cleaned it with arcticlean prior:

Starting with the 150 grit:

After exposing the copper:

320 grit:

400 grit:

Check out the sandpaper:

Most of that fine dust is copper from the CPU.

My well deserved treat to myself after all the strenuous work :p

As for temperature improvements, I will be busy curing the paste the next two days, but I have already seen a 1c drop to 24c at idle, with fresh paste. Haven't done any load tests yet, but the ambient is still 16c.

Pretty nice read.
Also why did you lap it since you were already getting nice temps.
Also is that a blackberry?

But won't lapping it decrease the re-sale value?

Edit
Is it pepperoni?

Lapped it because I could and because it will improve temps once the paste cures again.
It's a Nokia E63 - looks like a blackberry but it's not :P
Lapping might decrease sale value, I don't know. I have pictures of the CPU before, during and after as you can see :D

Pizza is meatlovers, and ham and cheese :D

What do you think of that H60 bro? Would you still get that another time around? Thinking of getting the same, any precautions? Also did you spray that case internals black?

The H60's good, to get the most out of it you really need some fans with good static pressure. I'll be getting some gentle typhoons for that. I'd certainly grab another one (with some better fans!) if I had the chance. I'd imagine it's good for lower power (65w/95w) CPU's as well. Precautions... Mount the block first otherwise it's a pain to get on. You also only get one set of mounting screws, so for two fans, use two on each in a diagonal fashion.

And the case came like that, I've had it almost 2 years now. :)

I'm trying to find some higher grit sandpaper to get a mirror finish but I can't find anything... I suppose I'll be ordering online :o
