LAN probs

Hey there, hope you guys can help here.

Im tryin to connect a QVT/Term program through VPN to my workplace. Sound simple right? Here's the problem.

Im using a Linksys BEFW11S4 router.
If I hook up directly to modem (skip router) I can run the QVT/Term program no prob. VPN connects fine.

Put the router in, VPN works fine (Had to use port triggering). But the QVT/Term prog does not?? This program is a telnet app and uses port 23, connects to Ip 192.168.7.12 Port triggering this port does not work??

My router Ip is 192.168.1.1 and my PC IP is 192.168.1.100, does this have anything to do with it? Any ideas???

Thanks

Try putting the maching running the Terminal program in the DMZ, and see if it then works. if it works, then your just missing another port number which you need to forward. The DMZ is an un-firewalled section of the router. No need to forard ports, as all requests will be forwarded to the DMZ computer.

Still a no go.

could it be, the program is looking to connect to 192.168.7.12, is my router not looking at the internet, but looking inside my lan?

Ok the telnet app is trying to connect to another local ip? right? But that local ip is located at work? Your connected somehow through a vpn to work from home, right?

If they are all using local ip addresses it gets a little confusing.. are the local firewalls off... winxp firewall or other software?

Also how is your vpn connection hooked up? router to router, through internet connection?

"Also how is your vpn connection hooked up? router to router, through internet connection?"

My assumption is yes.

As i posted above, The VPN runs fine both ways, but as for the telnet app >> if I run it PC to modem to internet, it works. If I run it PC to router to internet, it does not work.

I dont think the win xp firewall is a problem because everthing works without the router in the mix and the firewall on. But I have tryed it with the firewall off with no luck.

I run no other firewall software.

Your router is getting confused... Your requesting a connection to a local ip, which isnt local... Meaning, your router knows it ues the block ips 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.100. So when you request one outside of that block it will return a non response from host. The only way you can create a connection from the outside would be connecting to a non local ip block...

Two suggestions: Try changeing your ips block on your home router to 192.165.1.1-192.165.1.1 Then trying connection..

The second thing would be put your pc IP into the DMZ...
