LAN gaming...

So, I set up my two computers with a crossover cable, and they can share files easily. But they do not recognise it when I set up a LAN game on one computer. My firewalls are not blocking it, they were at first. Not so now. What could be the problem?

Try a direct connect in the game by typing in the Ip address. ALSO make sure both Pc's have an Ip from the Same pool.

I already tried that, both ways through AoE III. One way it said that the versions were not compatible.(Both were v1.0) The other way it could not find anything.

I'm not sure which other games have a direct IP connect, tried BF 1942 but couldn't find one...

It seems it is a game issue then. If it trued to make a connection and was unable... it was trying to make a connection.

Yes, but it is with all games not just this one, so I don't think it is just a game issue. As I said, it only does that one way, the other way it searches and searches, and then says it failed to find.

Both have Windows XP home edition. And created yes, but not viewable or joinable by myself or my friend from the other computer.

just use HAMACHI

Sorry, im not really solving the problem, just dodging it! BTW, this wwill only work if both comps have internet

Good luck!

No, only one computer has internet. I know Hamachi, and I use it. However in this case it is not applicable.
