LAN creation help

My brother just got a computer and we want to hook up a lan without connecting directly with an ethernet cable. I am using a Linksys pci card to connect to the net to a linksys wireless router. He is using an ethernet cable to connect directly to the wirless router. How do I go about doing this. I dont know much about this but i dont think i could use Ad-Hoc mode could I (because only one wireless card). Please help tell me how to do this! :eek: thanks in advance
 
what is "it" supposed to be. my computer is on the complete other side of the house using wirless and his is directly connected, wut are u trying to say just plug it in

its about 2500 sq ft and the wireless router station is in the complete opposite corner of the house, but i do get a signal of about 15 mbps. but that dosent help me w/ the lan prob (forgot to say ive never actualy hooked up a lan)
 
If you get internet on both computers, and they are both plugged into the same router, then you have a lan. Try going to your "my network neighborhood" and looking for your bothers pc. You may need to change the workgroup to the same for both pc's. -----> right click my cmputer, properties, and under computer name click the change button (winxp). I use mshome, some others use workgroup. Note your computers name. We will call it "joe"... After you make sure thei are on the same workgroup, go to your brothers pc and type in "//joe" into the internet explorer. This should bring up a folder type window with all your shared drives. If you dont have any share some. For the pc with the wireless connections... ONLY SHARE A DRIVE IF YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK IS SECURED! Meaning make sure it ask for the 13 digit wep password. Otherwise other people can login and grab your stuff.
 
ok now i have a workgroup and i see my brother computer but when i double click on his computer name to acsess his documents, an error comes up saying u need an administrative password even though i didnt set one and says to get administrator acsess. i am the one who made the connection and am the admin. how do i get it working??
