Labtec Mic problems

Hello, I just got a new custom-built computer, and now my cheap Labtec desk-mic is incompatible-ish. I say 'ish' because the speakers are responding, but the sound recorder is not recording and voice-programs such as Ventrillo and Team Speak are not picking it up either. The Audo-Wizard also detects it when its plugged in to the corresponding outlet.

My friend told me he had a similar problem and just bought a USB mic to fix the problem; however, I am very cheap and would like to see if I could fix this before spending my money.

I've WinXP pro, a pentium 4, realtek soundcard.. just for extra information

If you have not already, check the volume level for the microphone. If you are unsure how to do this read on.

Try double clicking on you speaker icon next to the clock, when the sound control window opens go to Options -> Properties and select recording. Be sure microphone has a check next to it and select ok. When the new window opens make sure there is not a check mark next to mute and the volume is turned up.

Yes I did that.

I tried the MSN Audio set-up. It still worked on the speakers, but the meter didn't react.

There doesn't seem to be any drivers for it. I suppose I'll just purchase a new one. Not a big deal.

Thanks.

I had the same problem, just play around in the volume tools, u will probably find it. YOU DO NOT NEED A NEW MIKE. if u get a new 1 it wll do the same thing.

I messed around a lot with the settings and what not. I even went into the Control Panel for Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices. No luck. I need some headphones though, and I think I found something with a mic attached that'll work well. It's a USB plug, while this Labtec is not. Maybe this will be show a different outcome.

there might be a driver. do you know the specific model number?

if not, was there any difference in the OS that you was running the mic on prior to that new custom built one? example meaning it was 98 and the new one is xp?

if not, have you checked if the new built computer's mic input driver is installed from the motherboard? (assuming the sound, mic, etc. is onboard)

if you bought the new one, great. does it work?
