Just a questions about Sleep mode

So I recently discovered Sleep mode on my Vista install lol I know I know dont laugh...

Anyway its pretty cool... But im just wondering... What does sleep mode actually do? And is it safe to sleep the computer for long periods of time?

Like all my fans basically turn off (well as far as I can tell they are off) including graphics and CPU fans... Is this healthy?

Cheers

It essentially puts the computer in a low-power state. It shuts off basically everything it can and just but keeps the RAM powered so it can resume wherever you left off.

There are no problems with using sleep mode. I actually left my old computer in sleep mode for about a month just recently. It resumed without a hitch. I also put my laptops to sleep all the time. My Dell is probably rebooted once a week, just going to sleep between uses. So far I've had no ill effects on mine, and had it around for about 2 years now.

Just know after the 3rd-4th time you sleep mode you will ability to use your keyboard and possibly your mouse.

Also note if you overclock your CPU there is a chance it will power on and off over and over till you unplug it.

This crap happened to me on my X2 4400+ and my Q6600 system ><

Hmm? I'm not sure what you're trying to say Twist... The only problems I've had with Sleep on my new system (which is overclocked) was that it sometimes wouldn't sleep...it'd get halfway then never "turn off", forcing me to reset it. In the end, it was an OS issue and has been resolved with a reload. My x2 4200 has always worked perfectly too. I didn't overclock it much (2.4GHz at most :P) but regardless, no issues to date.

Some Vista pc's do have problems when the power comes back on after sleep. Some people's mice and keyboards lock up. Most of the time its just a bios issue. MY mom's pc unfortunately has this problem.

So its all good... Mint Ill be using it alot more then... Since theres no real point to shutdown lol.

Exactly.

It hardly uses any power, and your computer restarts instantly. :good:

My living room pc running Windows 7 will sleep, but upon resume, USB
is dead.

Vista on the same machine resumes from sleep perfectly. This is a hardware
specific issue apparently.

If sleep mode works for you, then use it. If not, don't. :D
